This example was produced in France during the first half of the 19th century. These tables are referred to as "Rafraichissoir" tables which translated from the original French into English describes tables of this form based around their function for serving chilled wine or champagne. This table is constructed from a premium selection of mahogany lumber and fitted with an incredible piece of black marble with white accents. The marble is fitted with two inset copper basins which allow ice to slowly chill a bottle of wine or champagne during a social engagement. A blind single drawer is cleverly housed beneath the marble top to provide storage while not detracting from the sophistication of this wonderful antique French design. The table has two storage tiers which are surrounded by four turned and fluted posts that end standing on finely turned baluster feet.
