Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this stunning pair of Antique Tiger Maple & Bird’s Eye Maple chairs. The chairs were made in New England during the early 19th century. The cabinet maker did a fantastic job selecting the lumber for the chairs with vibrant Tiger maple and Bird’s Eye Maple grain. On top of selecting premium materials, they were properly laid out in an aesthetically pleasing fashion. The grain is phenomenal and the Tiger Maple on the front legs & rear stiles have their grain oriented horizontally, which constants nicely with the grain on seat box, crest rail, & stretcher that run vertically. The chairs have finely formed saber legs and curved stretchers that mirror the curve of the crest. The cane seats are in great condition with only a couple of cracked strands. The chairs had no problem holding my weight at 180 pounds. As with every other natural fiber seat chair, we would recommend using a cushion to help evenly distribute the weight. A couple of weeks ago we had a number of pairs of Tiger maple chairs similar to these. One pair went to California & another to Texas, but we’re constantly trying to replenish our stock of investment grade Tiger Maple furniture and were pleased to purchase these chairs and be able to offer them to our clients around the country. The chairs measure 17 1/4” wide x 19 1/2” deep x 32” tall with a 17” seat height.
