With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering this wonderful antique jelly cupboard. This example is among the rarest and most interesting examples we have encountered throughout decades of collecting antiques. Typically, we find antique jelly cupboards constructed from woods found in country settings such as pine and poplar with painted or veneered surfaces used to decorate the case. This example is constructed from a premium grade of mahogany with book-matched crotched mahogany selected to enhance both cabinet doors and upper drawers. The top of the cabinet features three drawers with two matching ogee curved drawers and smaller drawer situated in the center. The drawers are designed to be opened with a concealed notch beneath the drawer housing wide enough to be gripped with a few fingers. The double doors are fitted with brass escutcheons with a rare molded brass partition used to cover the space where both doors meet. The cabinet doors open to reveal a single interior shelf and plenty of interior storage space.

This antique jelly cupboard features two prominent "S" curved columns on either side of the case. The columns rest above two ogee elephant feet that fully support the cabinet. The case of the cabinet is constructed from old growth single plank sides which is quite a rare feature even amongst other mid 19th century examples. Both the backboards and underside of the cabinet reveal nearly two centuries of oxidation having been left undisturbed as most collectors hope to find. We note several old veneer repairs which were required and fixed by a professional restorer. The entire jelly cupboard has remained in excellent condition with a beautiful color which has been enriched with a lovely patina throughout the years. We have no doubt that this cabinet will find its way into a deserving home where it will be preserved for future generations as the wonderful country antique that it is. The cabinet measures 41" wide x 22 3/4" wide x 40 3/4" tall.
