Bay Colony Antiques is pleased to offer for sale this wonderful early 19th century antique New England Cherry & Pine worktable / server.
With its unusually wide proportions the table occupies an interesting place between a traditional work table and a serving table. Measuring 31 1/2" wide while only 16 1/2” deep, its generous breadth is quite distinctive among period work tables and gives the piece an especially useful presence.
There is something particularly appealing about furniture of this nature. It was made for practical use rather than ostentation, with its beauty found in proportion, materials, construction, and usefulness. The lower shelf and drawer add further versatility, making the table equally suitable as a serving table, console, or work surface.
The table has developed an attractive patina while its honest construction reflects the practical character of New England furniture of the period. Its unique size would allow it to find a particularly successful place in a variety of Early American and traditional interiors. The table measures 31 1/2” wide x 16 1/2” deep x 28” tall.
