With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in presenting this incredible antique Tiger Maple chest of drawers. This antique tall chest is among the finest which we have been able to secure over the past several years and we feel quite fortunate to now offer this example for the consideration of collectors across the country. We believe that this chest is a product of a master cabinetmaker working in New Hampshire during the first half of the 19th century. The entire piece is demonstrative of an expertly crafted chest of drawers with visible indications of hand tooled construction apparent inside the drawer boxes and within the interior spaces of the dresser. The case is joined together with hand cut dovetails that are exposed underneath the chest and easiest to view when the chest is laid down on its back. There are deep scribe markings inside the drawer boxes that correspond to the hand cut dovetails which join each drawer together. The backboards and drawer panels all feature the grooves of hand planes that are required to take wood from its natural form into flattened hand-hewn boards suitable for cabinet work.

This antique tall chest is built from a premium grade of tiger maple with brilliant grain and bold figuring. The dresser is an exceptional example of a Chippendale form chest of drawers which have been built in New England as far back as the 1760's and are still produced today by cabinetmakers working in the traditional styles of the 18th century. The tall chest is constructed in a five-drawer format with each drawer graduating in size and retaining its original hardware. The chest is fitted with the original primitive iron locks with the only exception being the third drawer. This chest features a well pronounced crown molding that projects over the drawers and stands on finely scrolled bracket feet. We believe that this chest is worthy of any collection of fine New England antiques and we sincerely hope the next owner will come to cherish and care for it as all those who have owned it previously have done. The chest measures 38 1/2" wide x 19 3/4" deep x 49" tall.
