Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this early and exceptional carved & painted shorebird decoy. We purchased this alongside about a dozen more shorebirds from a retired gentleman in Central MA who spent most of his adult life on Cape Cod. This was the earliest & in our eyes the best decoy in the collection. We've found a home for the majority of the others and are ready to part ways with this one & offer it for sale as well. The decoy has a white breast with black & white plumage on the remainder of the body. The beak is an independent whittled stick set into the decoy, and old iron tacks were used for the eyes. The carving is in wonderful condition with our only notes being minor paint loss / chipping & some small wood loss at the tail feathers. The decoy measures 11 1/2” wide from beak to tail x 2 1/4” deep x 11 1/4” tall including the stick.
