Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this fantastic early 20th century antique Tiger Oak double door bookcase / China cabinet. The cabinet was made by Library Bureau Sole Makers and is very well built. Library Bureau Makers crafted & sold a wide array of library and office furniture and because of their high standards for production, many have withstood the test of time quite well. Most antique furniture does need a little tweaking when it comes in the door, but Library Bureau cabinets seldom need anything at all which is a big reason why we love handling them alongside their popularity with collectors. The cabinet is 100% original & correct and retains all of its original hardware and most importantly, the original wavy glass doors with all of their charm. The bookcase has double paneled sides which would have been a more expensive and time-consuming process than using straight boards. Straight boards would be susceptible to age splits, but because of the cabinets superior design the panels can move ever so slightly to accommodate seasonal or environmental changes without splitting.

The bookcase has 3 shelves that can be easily adjusted to 44 different heights simply by moving the shelf pins. There’s also a small hidden compartment concealed in the base that can be accessed by lifting the bottom board. The hidden compartment has useable dimensions of 26” wide x 9” deep x 2 1/2” tall. The cabinet also has a raised gallery around the top which provides a little extra bonus storage should you need it. The cabinet was previously owned by the state of Connecticut as indicated by the old metal tag on the left side. We’ve sold a few desk chairs and file cabinets in the past with the same state of Connecticut tags and always leave them be as we enjoy the added provenance they carry & don’t believe they detract from the piece at all. If you’ve been in the market for a quality Oak double door bookcase for some time we’d strongly recommend this example for your consideration. The overall dimensions of the bookcase are 33 1/2” wide x 12 1/4” deep x 56” tall.
