Antique Arts & Crafts Oak Two Door Bookcase With Green Stained Glass by Larkin
Antique Arts & Crafts Oak Two Door Bookcase With Green Stained Glass by Larkin
With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering this wonderful antique bookcase. This example is one of the finest and most popular variations of early 20th century Arts & Crafts era bookcases currently available anywhere. The bookcase was created by the Larkin Company of Buffalo, NY over a century ago at a time when the company mainly focused on soap and toiletry products that they distributed nationally. As a promotional endeavor, Larkin produced a line of furniture which was sent to customers as an incentive for their continued business. Now over a century later, the line of furniture which Larkin manufactured has become widely sought after and most collectors are unaware of any connection to the production of soaps and home products for which the furniture was first built to promote.
The bookcase has remained in exceptional condition over a century of continual usage and still retains the original arts & crafts era stained glass panels featured on each door. The glasswork is in impeccable condition and has remained entirely all original. The entire bookcase is well suited for housing a large collection of books with sturdy shelving that can adjust to varying heights as to accommodate nearly any traditional publication. The bookcase is finished in a wonderful golden oak color and is quite sturdy with rounded front feet and strong paneled backboards which still bare the original paper label from the Larkin Company. Overall, the bookcase measures 42" wide x 15" deep x 57 1/2" tall. At the base the case measures 41" wide and at the top the bookcase is 14" deep. The interior shelves have a usable width of 38 1/2" and a usable depth of 11" behind each of the doors.
