With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering this wonderful antique desk. We typically offer desks of this form as secretary desks since they were first produced to serve as a writing desk with a front which folds downward and a simple interior to house papers and writing implements. The previous owner had used this desk as a dry bar for the past few decades by taking out the old interior to maximize storage capacity. The lower stretcher also served to display a series of wine and liquor bottles. The next owner of this desk may use it for whichever function best serves them or possibly alternate between both options as antique dry bars are nearly impossible to find.

The desk is constructed from a premium grade of white oak lumber with a strong emphasis on the Arts & Crafts design. Both the lid and drawer feature prominent recessed carvings that form a crossed "X" pattern. We have encountered similar designs on mission oak furniture produced by Lifetime Furniture and other leading manufacturers. The front legs are designed to appear as if they are protruding through the lid with twin obelisk tops applied to the desk lid and mirrored on the back gallery as if they were real pillaring monuments. This feature is unique to anything else which we have seen before on a piece of arts & crafts furniture. The desk also features an Art Nouveau brass escutcheon which alone could sell online for a few hundred dollars as it is quite unique and an absolute treasure among the works of other offerings of brass antique hardware. The desk measures 28" wide x 16" deep x 41 1/2" tall.
