With our highest compliments and utmost honors, Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this fantastic early 20th century antique Arts & Crafts / Mission Oak smoking stand by the Lakeside Crafts Shops. This is such a sweet little stand, and we’re excited to present it for sale to our Arts & Crafts / Mission Oak furniture collectors around the country. The Lakeside Crafts Shops were founded during the early 20th century (CA 1910) in Sheboygan Wisconsin. Lakeside Crafts furniture is highly collectible and right up there with Stickley furniture, Roycroft furniture, Shop of the Crafters, Lifetime, etc.
The smoking stand features a strong rectilinear form with a warm original dark Oak finish. The retention of the original surface allows for the study of workshop finishing methods and preserves the authentic color, sheen, and tactile qualities intended by the maker. For collectors of the highest quality of Arts & Crafts furniture, an untouched finish is one of the strongest indicators of integrity and value. Constructed in solid quarter-sawn oak, the cabinet showcases vibrant rays and flecks present in the grain, typical of the period. Its compact footprint makes it ideal as an accent piece in a Mission-inspired room, while its complete interior fittings make it an appealing example for collectors of early smoking furniture. The upper and lower front doors open to reveal the original fitted interior with cutouts for tobacco tins and other accessories. A side mounted pipe rack on either side adds both utility and charm, providing additional storage for multiple pipes.
The cabinet retains its original Lakeside Crafts Shops decal on the underside of the cabinet which is quite significant. These are paper labels vulnerable to wear, moisture, and handling, meaning few have survived. This label is in extremely good condition with strong intact graphics depicting a woodworker with a hand plane above the company’s motto, Art in the home. The stand is in wonderful condition with our only condition notes being minor surface wear and a few extra nail holes on the door from when it was repaired at some point in its life. We’ll have our restorer fill in the nail holes to make them even less noticeable. The stand measures 15” wide at the pipe racks x 13 1/8” deep x 31 3/4” tall.
