We’re pleased to offer for sale this charming early 20th century Antique Arts & Crafts / Mission Oak Armchair by Stickley Quaint Furniture. The chair has a model number of 405 painted on the underside as well as its original Quaint furniture metal tag. The chair was originally a rocker, but the blades were removed at some point in the chairs life. The chair features five slats across the back, with an additional three slats beneath each arm. The center slat of each group is slightly wider, adding a subtle but distinctive detail to the design. Other notable features include the broad paddle arms and a gently curved lower edge of the seat box. Without question, the most distinctive feature of this chair is its unusual wingback form. We recently sold a J. M. Young chair with a comparable wingback form, but aside from a handful of examples, the design is pretty uncommon. The original spring seat remains intact, although the upholstery is torn along the front and should be recovered. The chair measures 27” wide x 23” deep x 31 1/2” tall with a 12” seat height.
