With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering perhaps one of the rarest and most interesting hall trees which we have ever encountered. This example is either of American or French origin without any existing identifying features beyond the quality of the piece itself. The unusual form of this hall tree is reminiscent of works produced by Louis Majorelle who was the preeminent master of European Art Nouveau furniture design along with other pioneers of this design movement such as Emile Galle. The hall tree has a body consisting of simplistic mahogany lines which flow upright creating an "A" frame shape similar to that of a traditional art easel. Two curved brass mid rails and a "D" shaped inset drip pan allow this piece to function as a proper hall tree as to accommodate umbrellas that would hook over the rails and drip dry into the pan below. A single center drawer slides out for storage of accessories and is fitted with an interesting embossed copper drawer pull.
The most spectacular feature of this hall tree is the beveled heart shaped mirror present within the frame. This remarkable piece of glass work is every true Art Nouveau collector's dream, and we can state with all confidence that if many of these mirrors were ever made most have been lost to time. To say that this mirror is unusual would be an understatement, it is without any exaggeration among the rarest pieces of mirrored glass craftsmanship that our practice has ever found, and we do not expect to ever find another like it. The upper section of the hall tree is adorned with fantastic art nouveau coat hooks which are designed with dramatic curves quite unlike any other traditional hooks that we know of. This hall tree is a fantastic piece of traditional furniture made stylistically to be the focal point of any space which is occupies and is among the finest examples of Art Nouveau design available anywhere. The hall tree measures 31” wide x 10 1/2” deep x 79 1/2” tall.
