Antique Art Nouveau Fine Art Display Easel in Faux Mahogany Grain Painted Finish
Antique Art Nouveau Fine Art Display Easel in Faux Mahogany Grain Painted Finish
With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering one of the finest antique easels for the display of fine art which we have come to own throughout decades of collecting. At first glance we thought this was a remarkable example made of mahogany however we quickly realized that the entirety of the easel is expertly grain painted in sequential layers making this piece not just a wonderful option for the display of fine art but an example of fine art in its own right. This easel was created at the height of the Art Nouveau design movement sometime towards the beginning of the 20th century. The easel is primarily comprised of two obelisk shaped upright elements and is supported in the front with opposing rounded legs and in the rear by the adjusting central support. A spectacular bronze painted panel is featured within the top center depicting a cluster of grapes in high relief. Decorative incised linear designs are carved through layers of grain paint providing wonderful contrast throughout the overall aesthetic of the easel. We note some loss of grain paint around the front feet which we contribute to regular use and we believe this indication of use contributes to the overall character of this antique fine art easel. The easel measures 23 1/2" wide x 71" tall.
