ANTIQUE ART DECO CAST IRON INDUSTRIAL DRAFTING TABLE BY ANDERSON - BROOKLYN NY
With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering this remarkable antique drafting table. This example is a product of the New York Art Deco industrial age of the early 20th century with a highly stylized cast iron tripod base. The drafting table is identified as having been made by Anderson of Brooklyn NY with the name of the maker vertically written with raised letters prominently on the pedestal column. The cast iron base was professionally overcoated in a slate grey colored paint as to preserve the iron from rust and decay. There are smaller areas along the base where the original black surface is apparent. The drafting table is highly functional with a fully telescoping pedestal that can be set low off the ground should someone chose to sit or more commonly engaged entirely upright as to accommodate a standing draftsman.
The drafting surface is designed to tilt fully upright and can be adjusted to any angle until the work surface is completely flat and horizontal to the floor. Adjusting tension knobs allow the user to customize the height and tilt of the writing surface easily to the preference of the draftsman or artist. Quite often the work surfaces are discarded after they have been heavily used and a new wooden surface which is perfectly flat will take the place of the distressed original surface. The previously owner had a wonderful maple drafting surface custom made for it as to be reliably used well into the future. The entire piece is in excellent condition and functions quite well.
The work surface measures 31" long x 23 3/4" wide. When the telescoping pedestal is adjusted to be fully downward the drafting table measures 28 1/2" tall with the top tilted complete flat and 37 1/2" tall when tipped completely upright. When the center pedestal is adjusted to the tallest position setting the table measures 45" tall with the surface folded completely flat and 53" tall with the work surface tilted completely upright.
