LATE 19TH CENTURY CAST IRON MARINE DREDGER - RARE NAUTICAL IRON

We're delighted to offer for sale this wonderful late 19th century cast iron maritime dredger. We'd like to start off acknowledging we know this is not an anchor it's a marine dredger. Over time waterways would shallow out with currents carrying sediment and they eventually become impossible to travel. Dredges would be dragged behind a ship as routine maintenance for traveled waterways. Dredging is an ancient practice of advanced civilizations and communities dating back to the ancient Egyptians and the Nile River.
Noting the early welding and construction we feel confident this is a late 19th century example. There is a very nice round link chain along with the dredger. We have it draped over the body in the photos. The dredger is 45" tall x 19" in diameter.
