Thank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. We're a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We aggressively pursue important antiques, decorative arts, and objects of interest for our most discerning clients.
We're pleased to offer for sale this great vintage print "The Clipper Yacht America" based on the original by N Currier of Currier & Ives. The four masted clipper yacht America is pictured in full sail with three men working the masts & other smaller ships in the distance. Yacht racing was very popular in the 19th century and became a big sport. Yacht clubs would compete domestically and the America wanted to challenge British ships & sailors. The British weren't eager to race but that didn't stop the America. The Clipper Yacht America sailed into the English channel & defeated the famed English ship Laverock with ease. The American ship subsequently defeated 17 other ships of the Royal Yacht Squadron & became the winner of "The Cup" in the great match for all nations. The print lists full ship statistics on either side. This is a vintage reprint as noted on the right corner. This print is nicely framed & matted under antireflective plexi glass with only minimal foxing spots. The overall size is 22 1/4" x 18" with a sight size of 14 1/2" x 10 1/2".
