Bay Colony Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this fantastic mid 20th century custom made Elm & Satinwood Regency style sofa table. The table has a wonderful book matched Elm top with string inlay around the edge and drop leaf ends. Elm used to be one of the most abundant timbers in the US before Dutch Elm Disease ravished the population in the early 20th century. American elm is now endangered but thankfully there are efforts underway to repopulate the US with a fungal resistant subspecies. The table has a Satinwood banding around the edge and two drawers with elm faces and their original brass pulls. The sabre legs are free of any breaks and repairs and have brass end caps with brass casters. Most that we encounter have a turned stretcher, but this table has an arched base stretcher that is a nice visual element and also ensures the table is nice and sturdy. The table measures 39 1/2” wide x 23” deep x 28 1/2” tall. When the leaves are locked up the top measures 60” wide.
