Thank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. We're a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We aggressively pursue important antiques, decorative arts, and objects of interest for our most discerning clients.
With our highest compliments and utmost honors, Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this fantastic mid 20th century reproduction of an early American masterpiece by Goddard - Townsend of Newport, RI. Both families had multiple generations of cabinet makers & their distinct Newport style is among the most collectible and desirable in the world. We've attached a side by side picture of a near identical table in "Fine Points Of Furniture" by Albert sack for your convenience & additional similar examples can be easily found online through Rhode Island furniture archives & museum databases. An original 18th century Townsend lowboy is close to unobtainable and would excite every major American furniture auction and hammer down for 6 figures. This is a chance to own a one off copy of an American treasure with all the charm for a fraction of the price. The low boy is crafted from highly figured cherry with select cuts used for the drawer faces & the best reserved for the top. The cherry has a nice subtle sheen to it and overall the lowboy is in very good condition with our only note being a small separation in the two board top. The lowboy is fitted with a lock & key and we have two pictures of the cabinet the day it was finished that have been with it ever since. The low boy measures 33" wide x 21" deep x 30 1/2" tall.
