PAIR OF EARLY 20TH CENTURY CUSTOM MAHOGANY FEDERAL STYLE TWIN BEDS
Thank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. We're a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We aggressively pursue important antiques, decorative arts, and objects of interest for our most discerning clients.
We're prouod to offer for sale this great late 19th / early 20th century pair of mahogany Federal style heavily carved twin beds. Surely to be a stately addition to any room these beds are very clean and heavily carved. The beds have a larger than most headboard with a nice scrolled design. The turned feet transition to the leg blocks and then to the carved posts that set this pair of twins apart from others. The posts are decorated with multiple ringlet turnings, an acanthus carving, and a carved tapered top capped with turned flame finials. These beds have a heavily carved blanket rail on the foot board. The blanket rail has a complex bulbous turning pattern decorated with carved reeded elements, tight ringlet turnings, and a central carved bulbous turning. These beds are 81" long x 40" wide x 66 1/2" tall. The interior between the rail measurements are 36" wide x 75" long. A standard twin mattress will fit on these no problem. To use a standard box spring we'd recommend cutting a bunky boards for these. A bunky board is simply a thicker piece of plywood custom cut to sit flush on the rails without moving around. We have a number of local bedding makers we've used in the past and to get the absolute best looking and most comfortable use of these we'd recommend having a rabbet edge box spring made for these. A rabbet edge box spring is shaped like an uppercase T with the wings sitting flush above the rail and the lower portion drops between them. At our local bedding company a standard box spring is ~$100 and a custom rabbet edge one is ~150. It's only one extra cut for them to make so it sounds like a much bigger ordeal than it is. If you're within our delivery range of roughly 250 miles we can fully assist in this process.
