Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this wonderful early 20th century Chippendale antique style Tiger Maple slant lid desk. We photographed this towards the end of the day when our light was receding so there are some shadows in our photos. The desk showcases an attractive Tiger Maple grain on the top, front, base, & sides. The desk is very well made with solid Tiger Maple boards used for the lid & drawer faces so there’s no need to worry about any veneer damage now or in the future. The lower portion of the desk has 4 drawers that graduate in size and have incised edges. The horizontal transitions are dovetailed into the case and the drawers retain their original locks & phoenix head brasses. The lid opens to reveal a sophisticated double tiered interior with 8 pigeonholes & 9 drawers. If you pull the centermost drawer out of the interior the ninth drawer is hidden behind it. The bracket base is finely formed and further accented with a nice scrolling pattern and protruding spurs. The desk is in very good condition with our only notes being minor surface wear. The writing surface measures 34” wide x 18 1/4” deep with 29” of clearance under the lid which is important to consider when matching up an accompanying chair. The overall dimensions of the desk are 36 1/2” wide x 18 1/2” deep x 40 1/2” tall.
