20TH CENTURY CHIPPENDALE ANTIQUE STYLE SOLID BIRDS EYE MAPLE GRANDMOTHERS CLOCK CASE

We're excited to offer for sale this fantastic 20th century Birds Eye Maple Chippendale Antique style grandmothers clock case. This is an exceptional case with highly figured solid birds eye maple stock in a traditional Chippendale form. Birds eye & tiger maple are very popular native woods, especially in instrument making such as guitar necks. The best & most highly figured maples like this are generally reserved for luxury cars, instruments, custom cabinetry and usually cut into veneers. Making a clock like this out of solid BEM stock isn't the most economical venture but we'll commend the cabinet maker, the end product is quite stunning. What actually causes the bird's eye figuring in the wood has long been debated. We've heard almost every rendition of the story throughout the years from birds pecking at the wood, to a fungal abnormality, to varying soil conditions but to be honest, it's not yet fully understood why this occurs. The clock case measures 19 1/2" wide x 13" deep x 74" tall. The open area of the door where the face would sit measures 10 3/4" wide x 14" tall.
