20th C Antique Tiger Oak Globe Wernicke Stacking Barrister Bookcase
20th C Antique Tiger Oak Globe Wernicke Stacking Barrister Bookcase
Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this fantastic early 20th century antique Arts & Crafts Tiger Oak Globe Wernicke barrister bookcase. The Globe File Company was founded in the 1880’s and merged with the Wernicke company to become Globe Wernicke around the turn of the 20th century. These bookcases are especially nice for people living in spatially restrictive cities. The bookcase can be completely broken down into 5 separate components which makes them easy to ship and bring into your home. The base and the bottom two sections are “E’s” which were the deepest standard sections GW offered. The top two sections are “D’s” which are just slightly shallower and give the bookcase a nice step back effect. The doors actuate with ease, and all retain their original wavy glass. All but one section are grade 299 with the other being grade 298 1/2. Both grades are Quarter Sawn Oak, but 299 is a Golden Oak Finish and 298 1/2 is an Antique Oak finish. The color discrepancy is barely noticeable, but we wanted to point it out anyways. The bookcase is in fantastic condition with our only notes being minimal surface wear. The bookcase measures 34” wide x 14” deep x 71 1/4” tall.
