The table was used to store unanswered mail & important correspondences and the original had an internal lock that would lock all the drawers at once. Jefferson was an exceptional writer & an astute man who studied mathematics, law, philosophy, politics, astronomy, and much more. Jefferson was one of the principal writers of The Declaration Of Independence and would later become our nation's third president . The table has 8 drawers, 4 rectangular drawers & 4 triangular drawers. Drawers ABC & NOP measure 10 3/4” wide x 12 1/8” deep x 4” tall. Drawers GHI & TUW measure 10 3/4” wide x 7 3/4” deep x 4” tall.
