Bay Colony Antiques is pleased to offer for sale this wonderful early 20th century antique Mahogany console table. The table was probably made around the 1920’s but it wouldn’t surprise us if it was a tad earlier made around the turn of the 20th century. The table is a great size and employs a desirable demilune form. An exceptional cut of crotch Mahogany was used for the top and it is accented with a Satinwood border, string inlay, and a cross banded mahogany border along the edge. The table has 4 tapered legs with inlaid cuffs, line inlays around the edge, & fantastic series of inlaid bellflowers on each leg. The apron is also Mahogany with vertically orientated grain highlited with inlaid panels with cut out corners. The bottom of the apron has an additional cross banded Mahogany border adding to the overall congruity of the design. One of our favorite embellishments are the inlaid flowers above each leg. The inlaid flowers are comprised of various woods and the small scratch carvings at the petals were a nice touch to make them look more dynamic and realistic. We purchased this from an Eastern MA home, and it was likely made around Boston where a number of skilled cabinet makers continued to furnish the homes of Boston's elite until about the 1940's. The table is in fantastic condition with our only notes being a small veneer bubble on the top & minimal surface wear but nothing that would warrant a refinishing. This table is larger than most and measures 47 1/2” wide x 23 1/2” deep x 33 1/4” tall.
