Bay Colony Antiques is extremely proud to offer for sale this wonderful early 20th century antique International Stock Food Company poster starring the legendary Dan Patch. Dan Patch was an elite pacer and was so dominant that other owners would refuse to race their horse against him. Dan Patch quickly became a household name and his story of perseverance and overcoming obstacles is truly quite remarkable. His life and history is well documented so we won’t go into too much detail here. Dan Patch was sold by his original owner, Daniel Messner, for a record breaking sum of $20,000 in February of 1902. Dan’s new owner, Manley Sturgis, owned the horse for less than a year before selling him for $60,000 to Minnesota businessman, Marion Savage, in December of 1902. Savage owned the International Stock Food company which can be seen in the background of the print. Myron McHenry is the depicted rider who rode Dan Patch from 1901-1903. The bottom of the print boats that “Dan Patch eats International Stock Food every day”. The poster has some creasing from being folded, minimal foxing, & some light deterioration. Very few of these have survived and we are immensely excited to bring this early farm advertisement with such a beloved subject matter to market. The print is framed under glass and measures 31 3/4” wide x 26” tall overall. The sight size excluding the frame is 27 3/4” wide x 20 3/4” tall.
