EARLY 20TH CENTURY ANTIQUE CREAMERY PACKAGE MFG CO "20TH CENTURY TESTER"
Thank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. We're a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We aggressively pursue important antiques, decorative arts, and objects of interest for our most discerning clients.
We're pleased to offer for sale this rare early 20th century antique dairy tester. The Creamery Package MFG co was founded in Chicago in 1887. Their early catalogs boast "Comprising a complete line of apparatus and supplies for creameries, cheese factories, milk dealers, dairymen, ice cream makers, refrigerating & ice making machinery, egg cases & fillers." The company catalog can be viewed online through public records. The body is signed with the company plaque and it also marked 20th century tester. We had to dig out our catalog and believe this is for a casein test.
The catalog reads "Every farming community in which there is a suflicient number of cows should by all means have a creamery established, either by the farmers them selves combining and establishing a co-operative creamery, by interesting local business men in a stock company, or by some individual building and operating the creamery as a private enterprise. Experience has shown that a creamery can be made a success when there are 300 cows within a radius of three miles of the point at which the creamery is to be built. When this number of milk cows is available and a creamery is built and properly managed it is usually but a short time until the number is largely increased and the business firmly established."
We enjoy stopping at local creameries in our travels, they're a nice spring / summer gathering place for small communities around the US. This would be a great decorative piece for any home or business. This example measures 21" wide x 19" deep x 13" tall.
