20th C Antique Arts & Crafts Tiger Oak Stacking File Cabinet - Rare Index Drawer
Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this exceptional early 20th century antique Tiger Oak file cabinet. We normally have about a dozen file cabinets for sale but have had a major run on our inventory and only have a couple left. We couldn’t locate a maker's mark but there’s a production number of 519 stamped into the wood. When grading antique files, we first like to look at the construction. Examples with paneled side will always command a premium over ones with straight sides. We also consider the grade of lumber used & the oak used for this cabinet has an attractive grain with vibrant rays & flecks present. While the feet are small, your back will thank you for those couple extra inches because you don’t have to bend down as far for the bottom drawer. The file can also be broken down into 6 separate components which makes it easy to ship around the country and move around the house.
The cabinet has 2 standard size drawers and 4 index card drawers. The uppermost index drawers are slightly smaller and have shallow fluted carvings between them. The file retains all of its original brass hardware with the exception of two intermediary rods that don’t impede the use of the cabinet. All of the drawers, including the smaller ones, still retain their interior file rods. The file is in very good condition with our only notes being wear to the top, and a small block missing on the back right foot that can be seen in photos 8 & 9. The smallest drawers measure 5 1/8” wide x 17 1/2 deep x 3 1/2” tall. The medium size drawers measure 6 1/8” wide x 17 1/2” deep x 4 1/2” tall. The large drawers measure 14 1/2” wide x 17 1/4” deep x 10 1/4 tall. The overall dimensions of the cabinet are 15 7/8” wide x 19” deep x 41 1/2” tall.
