19TH CENTURY HUDSON RIVER VALLEY PORTRAIT OF SEMI CLAD YOUNG WOMAN IN MOONLIGHT

Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering you this exceptionally well done oil on canvas portrait of a beautiful semi clad woman in full bodied repose illuminated by moonlight with landscape scene in background in a stunning original gold gilt frame. This alluring woman has one foot placed in the cooling stream before her and takes on a strikingly & provocative pose. The mechanics of this art work are very interesting and it simply captures your attention with its subtle details & charms. On verso it possesses a fascinating painted verse of " Presented to Mrs Catherine Harley by Mrs Kate Robison to be returned to her on Mrs Harley's demise-A loving thot to her brother Allen 1870". We can logically conclude this is a risque portrait of Mrs Catherine Harley commissioned by Mrs Kate Robison as a gift of great thought and deep feelings these women shared for each other. Evidencing its origins is the obviously highly trained artists capture of Mrs Harley with yet the simplistic charms of American Hudson River Valley portrait artist's study of the symmetry of facial features as Mrs Harley's features are conveyed at night using moonlight where she is in semi abandonment . It is in wonderful condition with no repairs or restorations possessing an additional painted date of "1870".
