IMPRESSIVE 19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE VICTORIAN 3 PC WALNUT PARLOR SET ~ SOFA & 2 CHAIRS
Thank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. We're a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We aggressively pursue important antiques, decorative arts, and objects of interest for our most discerning clients.
With our highest compliments we're proud to offer for sale this exceptional 19th century antique Victorian 3 piece parlor set. Perfect for any parlor this set is crafted from American black walnut a native species highly coveted by cabinet shops. Walnut is still considered one of the most valuable native species. The best tier of walnut is reserved for gunstocks, cabinetmaking, & veneers. This highly carved walnut set consists of an impressive large Victorian sofa, arm chair, & side chair. We really don't deal with much Victorian seating, we offer the finest early American furniture with a special attention to detail to top tier 18th & 19th century antiques. On Israel Sack's grading tier system, good - better sets can be purchased very affordably at local outlets, ebay, & homes. The better - best tier still command the strong prices and remain a stable investment for collectors. It doesn't make sense for us to be over encumbered with large sofas when we're always struggling to make space for our investment grade antiques. The only other Victorian sofa we have in right now is a rosewood John Belter set. This set certainly falls in the better - best tier with complex carvings executed to perfection. Our clients understand the difference between everyday mass produced Victorian furniture & custom high end cabinet shops work such as this.
This set stands on great fluted turret carved legs decorated with tight ringlet turnings & bulbous carved collars. The seat rail is double incised carved with recessed carved diamonds at the corner blocks. The stiles and crest rail are further molded with carved ears and crest. The center carved crest is exceptionally well done with crisp, free from damage carvings. The carving work is really what sets this set apart from others. We have a 12 photo limit but will be happy to furnish you with any additional photos you may require. This set is finished in a tasteful forest green & cream colored upholstery with padded arms. This is a great high end parlor set that exhibits elegance and grace. This is in our satellite warehouse and we'll update with sizes shortly. If you require immediate assistance before we update this please send us a message and we'll be sure to send the sizes right over to you.
