19th CENTURY PENNSYLVANIA SHERATON STYLE CENTENNIAL CHERRY BACHELORS CHEST WITH THE BEST CORNUCOPIA BRASSES
Bay Colony Antiques is pleased to offer for sale this wonderful 19th Century Pennsylvania Sheraton Style Centennial Cherry Bachelor Chest. The year is 1876, the United States is planning a celebration to honor the centennial anniversary of our new country and the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The Centennial International Exhibition was our first "World's Fair" on American soil. Visitors from all over the world visited Philadelphia during the 6 month showcase and marveled at the advancements in industry, agriculture, philosophy, and horticulture. The Centennial Exhibit was a great success with an estimated 10 million visitors attending. American pride was at an all time high, with our strengthened nationalism we enter an era of "Colonial Revival" in cabinet making and architecture.
This is truly a very fine and advanced reproduction of it's ~100 year older counterpart. This chest is made from cherry which was abundant and revered in the area. The turned legs are just the right amount of flair on this otherwise modest & reserved piece. The Ringlet turnings and reeded carvings highlight a talented individual. The Cabinet maker uses a very good lay out of the grain to catch your eyes front and center of this beautiful little dresser. The hand cut dovetailed drawers are further accented with cock bead molding and 6 off the charts brass cornucopia pulls. Please do take a moment to ensure you check out the standalone photo of the brass. The basket woven cornucopia is plentiful with pears, grapes, and other foliage finished in an overall pleasing manner. This chest is very clean and in excellent condition. Well maintained with a great finish and all drawers actuate with ease. The chest is 30 1/4" wide x 18 3/4" deep and stands 29 3/4" tall.
