19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE TIGER MAPLE SHERATON PERIOD DROP LEAF DINING TABLE
Thank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. We're a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We aggressively pursue important antiques, decorative arts, and objects of interest for our most discerning clients.
We are delighted to offer for sale this wonderful 19th century Sheraton period tiger maple drop leaf table. This New England table is crafted from great grain tiger, or curly maple. The table is finished in a nice warm golden amber color that highly compliments the wood. The table stands on 4 turned legs decorated with tight ringlet turnings and bulbous feet The table retains it's original integrity with minimal restorations. We note at some point in the tables life the top split and was braced with metal brackets & a wooden batten. The table retains it's original hinges that haven't been moved as you can see they line up with the cabinet makers scribe marks & channels. We note minimal breakout on the rule joint near the hinges. Maple is one of our heaviest & densists native woods and it isn't uncommon to see slight loss like this with big heavy drop leaves. The leafs are supported by a double shuttle system in the table box that actuates with ease and holds tight. The table measures 44" long x 22" wide x 28 1/2" tall. When the leaves are locked up the width goes from 22" to 52 1/2" wide.
