19th C Narrow Antique French Empire Mahogany Console Table With Granite Top
19th C Narrow Antique French Empire Mahogany Console Table With Granite Top
Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this wonderful antique Mahogany French Empire console table. The table exhibits a rare diminutive size and is perfect for that hard to furnish spot. There’s a single drawer concealed in the table box and the table has a granite top. Granite is an igneous stone, and this example is dappled with fantastic dark grey enclosures that formed as the molten stone was cooling. The supports showcase a well-proportioned Cyma curve that transition gracefully into the pedestal base. The table has an old sticker on the back of the granite showing this was previously owned by F Kingston Berlew. Berlew was born in Bangor Maine in 1930 and lived a long successful life. He traveled the world, visiting over 100 countries, & eventually returned to live in Maine. The sticker has Berlew’s London address, and he must have loved the table as much as we do to bring it with him across the Atlantic. We purchased this from a family friend in Maine who has been a prominent antique dealer his entire life and likely purchased this directly from the family. The table is in very good condition with our only notes being minor surface wear. The console measures 28 1/2” wide x 16 1/4” deep x 31 1/2” tall.
