19TH CENTURY FRENCH LOUIS XV WALNUT ANTIQUE VITRINE W/ THE BEST ORMOULO CARYATID MOUNTS

Thank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. We're a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We aggressively pursue important antiques, decorative arts, and objects of interest for our most discerning clients.

We're proud to offer for sale this wonderful 19th century antique French Louis XV walnut vitrine with carrera marble top and fantastic ormoulu mounts. Refreshingly this is a true French cabinet stamped France on the dressers top. This cabinet has a fantastic piece of shaped petrified carrera marble generally reserved for only the finest furniture. The vitrine is crafted from bookmatched parquetry walnut wood designed & executed perfectly. The sides are beautiful walnut panels with an attractive crotched grain. The cabinet has convex vertical stiles flanking the door decorated with a string inlay & exceptional ormoulu mounts. The castings feature a caryatid with floral & vine decoration. The brass mounts are fire gilt in a process that affixes a small amount of gold to give that special shine. These are heavy cast brasses much better than you find on modern Romanian, Russian or Egyptian copies. The door has a brass liner around the glass with attractive floral rosettes at each corner. The center apron has an attractive lobed design with an impressive floral and vine cartouche. The cabriolet legs are nicely made and decorated with pierced brass caps. The vitrine opens to reveal three shelves covered in what looks to be the original red / pink velvet lining. The lining does have small rips but we wouldn't recommend changing it, it's certainly acceptable condition. The shelves supports can be moved up and down to adjust the shelf height. This cabinet is in pristine condition. This is one of the cleanest best examples we've owned in years.
