19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE VICTORIAN WALNUT & GRANITE PIER MIRROR / HALL TREE

Thank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. We're a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We aggressively pursue important antiques, decorative arts, and objects of interest for our most discerning clients.

Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this wonderful 19th century antique Victorian walnut & granite pier mirror. During the Victorian period new advances in machinery led to easier means of furniture production. For the first time in American history a plethora of different designs for every occasion were available to more families of modest means. Furniture was often sold in suites with varying prices depending on how intricate the designs were and how many man hours it would consume. Large pier mirrors like this came into fashion during the Victorian period as more and more homes featured dedicated entry ways and open foyers . A pier mirror or hall tree provided its owner a nice last look before they entered the home or ventured out into the world. Personal appearance and proper etiquette was a large part of Victorian society. The frame is crafted from black walnut with burled columns, incised floral & geometric carvings, turned drop finials, and a sophisticated heavily carved crown. The mirror is in fantastic condition with our only condition note being an old repair to the pink granite that we have shown. The mirror measures 40” wide at the crown (36” wide at the base) x 12” deep x 96” tall.
