ANTIQUE VICTORIAN TIGER OAK S CURVE ROLL TOP DESK

Thank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. We're a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We aggressively pursue important antiques, decorative arts, and objects of interest for our most discerning clients.

We're delighted to offer for sale this exceptional Victorian period tiger oak s curve roll top desk. 10/15 years ago roll top desks were falling out of fashion fast. The home computer industry almost put the nail in the coffin with large monitor displays. With most homes now using laptops & smaller devices antique roll tops are again becoming a staple of modern design. We wouldn't say they're exceptionally rare but have different tiers in design intricacies and condition. We choose to only sell a select tier of roll tops that actuate with ease are unaltered and are in good clean finishes. This desk has 4 standard drawers in the left bank and 2 standard and 1 double drawer in the right bank. The drawers have adjustable dividers for keeping stationary separate. The desk has two pull out writing tabs above the banks. The roll top opens and closes with ease and is fitted with the original brass escutcheon plate. We didn't get a lock & key with this but most locksmiths can fit one for a nominal fee. The S-curve top opens and closes with ease and reveals an interior with a generous pigeon hole system, two document drawers, and 2 pull out pencil slides. This desk has a very unusual hidden interior locking system. Most roll tops with interior locks lock shut when the center drawer is closed. This desk never had a center drawer and the mechanism works quite different. We've attached a photo of the iron locking mechanism. When the roll is closed the drawers will be in the locked position. When the roll is opened it receedes into the case and triggers a metal plunger to release the drawers. We've tested the mechanism and it's 100% working as intended. The desk comes apart in sections making this much easier to move around than a standard 4' desk. This desk was well cared for and very clean in a golden brown finish. The desk has a complex paneling system and is finished on all sides. The desk is 49" wide x 33" deep x 50" tall. The knee hole is 21" wide.
