19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE TIGER OAK VICTORIAN LARKIN SIDEBOARD / SERVER W/ MIRRORED GALLERY
Thank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. We're a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We aggressively pursue important antiques, decorative arts, and objects of interest for our most discerning clients.
We're delighted to offer for sale this wonderful 19th century antique Victorian tiger oak server by Larkin. The Larkin Soap Company was founded in 1877 in Buffalo, NY by John D Larkin. The company employed a mail order, straight to consumer business method that helped them flourish. In 1893 the catalog was distributed to over 1.5 million people. The company sold bundle deals where if you purchased $10 worth of soap you'd receive a free object like a lamp, desk, a piece of pottery, or many other objects. As demand grew the company decided to manufacture these "giveaway" pieces themselves. From this the Larkin Furniture Company in Buffalo was created. The server is crafted from quartersawn oak with a very bold grain pattern. The server is defined by curved bottle drawers fitted with a glass shelf, a beveled glass mirrored gallery, nicely carved ball & claw feet, & beautiful pierced brass hardware. The server is signed Larkin on a paper label on the back & features a production number of 531 on the inside of a door. This server has been expertly refinished in a vibrant golden oak color that absolutely glows.
