19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE VICTORIAN RENAISSANCE REVIVAL WALNUT & MARBLE HALL TREE BY THOMAS BROOKS
Thank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. We're a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We aggressively pursue important antiques, decorative arts, and objects of interest for our most discerning clients.
With our highest compliments and honors we're extremely proud to offer for sale this exceptional 19th century antique Victorian Renaissance revival walnut & marble hall tree. Thomas brooks was a prolific institutional level cabinet maker practicing in New York city at the height of the revival period. Brooks furniture continues to be one of the most collectible fields of American cabinetry. The Victorian period is considered the longest lasting style with rough dates of about 1840-1900. The Victorian period featured a number of revival periods such as Gothic, Rococo, renaissance, & neoclassical to name a few. It was a wonderful period of rediscovery in an advanced era.
This hall tree features a wonderful dental carved crown molding with a central shell carving. The hall tree has fully formed vertical pilasters decorated with shallow incised carving and masterfully exectued acanthus leaf carvings. The hall tree has a large mirroed section flanked by beautiful burled walnut panels on the vertical stiles. The base has two drawers with their original dragon head brass pulls & a pleasing geometric incised carving. The hall tree employs an incised carved urn finial above a burled mahogany plinth. This is unquestionablly the highest tier of this discipline and we'll be hard pressed to replicate a find like this. The only other grander examples we see than this contain full bodied figural carvings and regularly hammer down mid 5 figures at any prominent auction house. The worst we can say about this example is the coat hooks have been swapped out for more decorative high gloss examples. We purchased this from a long island home where the past owners had this proffessionaly restored by a master woodworker. We opted to not have the glass edited out please pardon our mess in the photos. We didn't want the reflective qualities of the glass to be omitted and replaced with a silver square. The hall tree retains it's original petrified marble at the base and is one of the finest pieces of Victorian furniture we've offered on this platform. Sure to make a statement in any entrance we're confident we'll find a home for this soon. We are so happy and thank all of our customers for the ability to bring to market some of the finest pieces in the country. We're loaded to bear with museum grade stock we're processing and will be working diligently to have everything processed shortly. This is a monumental piece measuring 51" wide x 14" deep x 82" tall.
