Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this wonderful 19th century antique Federal period Tiger Maple four post bed in the Sheraton manner. The posts are absolutely gorgeous with an attractive reed carving that tapers and swells. The Curly Maple used for the headboard has an extremely bold grain and when the figuring is this good it’s usually referred to as instrument grade Tiger Maple. The bed is solid as a rock and is held together with carriage bolts and inset nuts in the rails. The bed has brass bolt covers for each visible bolt with the exception of the back because it won’t be seen against the wall.
The interior between the rails measures 54 3/4” wide x 74” long. Please note, full size box springs are 54” wide x either 74” or 75” long. A 75” box spring will not fit and if you do end up using a box spring we would recommend a low profile one about 2” thick to allocate more height for the mattress. A bunkie board or a thick piece of plywood would be best to support the mattress because it eliminates the need for a standard box spring. The bed measures 58” wide x 79 1/4” deep x 67” tall overall.
