19th C Antique Sheraton Fancy Paint Thumb Back Chair W/ Rush Seat & Greek Key
19th C Antique Sheraton Fancy Paint Thumb Back Chair W/ Rush Seat & Greek Key
Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this fantastic 19th century antique Sheraton fancy paint chair. This is as nice as these come with a finely formed thumb back, slat & ball back, compass formed seat, and splayed front legs with button feet. Sheraton furniture was designed to be more delicate in scale than it’s predecessors and the brightly painted surfaces came into fashion with the new discoveries of Herculaneum, Pompeii, etc.. The chair is decorated with a superb gold & mustard seed yellow paint with a phenomenal Greeley key painting on the curved crest. We strongly believe this is a New York Chair but have seen a few similar ones from Baltimore. The chair is in wonderful condition with our only notes being minor point loss as pictured. The chair measures 18 1/4” wide x 16 1/4” deep x 33 1/2” tall with a seat height of 17 1/2”.
