19th C Antique Sheraton Cherry & Tiger Maple Chest of Drawers / Dresser
19th C Antique Sheraton Cherry & Tiger Maple Chest of Drawers / Dresser
Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this wonderful early 19th century antique Sheraton Cherry & Tiger Maple chest of drawers / dresser. The chest has an extra large overhung top drawer with 3 drawers below that graduate in size. The first of the 3 smaller drawers has a fully compartmentalized interior divided into 9 sections. The drawer faces are solid Tiger Maple so there’s no need to worry about any veneer damage now or in the future. The lower drawers are flanked by rope carved half columns with an interesting concentric circle carving right above the front feet. There’s some moderate wear to the ring carvings but it’s important to remember the chest is over 200 years old. The Tiger Maple selected for the faces is of the highest grade with an extremely bold figuring and density of stripes. We strongly believe the chest was made around the NY/ PA border but have also handled similar examples from upstate NY. We took these photos outside on a sunny day and the chest appears slightly more orange than it is in our angled photos. There’s a nice contrast between the lighter Maple & the dark Cherry and our straight on photos show the best representation of the color. The chest is in very good condition with our only further notes being light scratching & surface wear but nothing that would warrant a refinishing in our opinion. The chest measures 45 1/4” wide x 22 1/2” deep x 43” tall.
