19th C Antique Oak Encyclopedia Size Large Barrister Bookcase / Cabinet - Globe
Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this fantastic late 19th century antique Arts & Crafts Tiger Oak barrister bookcase by Globe File Company. The Globe File Company was founded in the 1880’s and merged with the Wernicke company to become Globe Wernicke around the turn of the 20th century. This is an extra large encyclopedia size barrister section with sliding oak doors. The inside of the bookcase has two full length shelves with 18 different height adjustments spaced roughly 1” apart. The interior measures 39 1/2” wide x 14 1/4” deep x 23 1/2” tall. There are two pull out writing tabs above the doors that we rarely see anymore and they’re a good size measuring 19 1/4” wide x 9 3/4” deep. The base was altered but the work was performed in a professional manner that includes original elements. The front base board and the boards on each side are original but the oak on the sides of the base is slightly different. The conversion was either done because the old base was damaged or may have been to add the drawers. The drawers have pierced brass Victorian pulls with Green Man designs. The barrister is in wonderful condition with our only notes being minor surface wear and a small ridge on the top where the veneers meet. The bookcase measures 41 1/2” wide x 18 1/2” deep x 39 1/2” tall.
