Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this fantastic early 19th century antique New England Maple cannonball rope bed. The posts are vigorously turned with a number of different patterns. The posts have cannonball tops with bellflower shaped collars, multiple series of ringlet carvings, and baluster turned legs that taper to a fine point. A rope foundation can still be used but it’s much easier to use a box spring because the ropes stretch over time & need to be tightened. The bed was expertly lengthened a few inches and the work can be seen at the top of the rails on the headboard side. The interior measurements are 46 1/4” wide x 71 3/4” deep. Custom bedding is super easy to order and there’s most likely a maker in your area. Almost all box springs and mattresses are made locally, and the brand names are sewed on at the end. In our experience custom sizes are only about $100 more and we’re happy to help if you had any further questions. We’d recommend a low profile box spring around 2” thick to allow more space for the mattress. The bed measures 54” wide x 79 1/4” deep x 51” tall overall.
