With our highest compliments and utmost honors, Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this wonderful late 18th / early 19th century antique Sheraton Cherry & Tiger Maple card table. The table was crafted CA 1795-1810 and is absolutely stunning. The top is solid Cherry with a highly figured grain and an incised carving along the edge. The apron is crafted from bold grain Tiger Maple & the table has 5 Cherry legs with well balanced turnings. We have this listed as a New England table but it also could have been made in Pennsylvania outside of Philadelphia. This specific serpentine form was a little more popular Pennsylvania but we felt more confident with a New England attribution. For being a country made piece the table is exceptionally well executed & the cabinet maker was clearly trained in an advanced cabinet shop at some point in their career. Young men would start as an apprentice, work their way up to a journeyman, and after years of hard work could become a master cabinet maker. It was a long, grueling career path to the top and plenty of journeymen moved away to more rural areas and were content with dominating their local market without as much competition. The table measures 35 3/4” wide x 18 1/2” deep x 30” tall. The flip top is supported by a gate leg and when flipped open the top measures 35 3/4” wide x 37” deep.
