Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this wonderful 19th century antique New England Maple Shaker side chair. The Shakers emigrated from England in pursuit of religious freedom and lived in independent communities from as far north as Maine to Ohio. The chair has a three slat back and each slat is peg joined with the original scribe marks present. The splint seat has a nice weaving pattern & is in great condition with a few cracks but nothing that would impede use or warrant being done over. The stretchers have natural wear patterns from the sitter resting their feet and the chair is very well made and still nice and sturdy even after roughly 200 years. The chair measures 19 1/2” wide x 15” deep x 39 1/2” tall with a seat height of 15 1/2”.
