19th C Antique Mahogany Inlaid Shaving Mirror With Drawers - Tabletop Mirror
Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this wonderful 19th century antique Federal period Mahogany shaving mirror. Mirrored glass became a lot more affordable in the 19th century and with new advances in technology they contained less impurities & could be made in larger sizes. The glass in this piece is original and has great reflective qualities with a light clouding and a couple of slivering loss spots near the edges. The shaving mirror has two drawers constructed with hand cut dovetails and pine secondaries. The drawers have their original brass knobs and a beautiful crotched Mahogany veneer was used for the faces. The drawers are surrounded by a cross banded Mahogany border with a light string inlay around the edges. The same string inlay can be found on the mirror supports and there’s a variegated wood inlay around the mirror frame. The mirror is in excellent condition with our only additional notes being minor surface wear & some light finish degradation around the mirror frame. The shaving mirror measures 15 3/4” wide x 7 3/8” deep (7 3/4 with knob) x 16” tall. The mirror has a sight size of 11 1/4” wide x 7 1/2” tall.
