With our highest compliments and utmost honors, Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this exceptional early 19th century antique Pennsylvania Poplar blanket box. Poplar is one of the most prevalent US timbers and is really an important tree to the US economy and daily life. Poplar is fast growing and of a medium density but is structurally very strong. Poplar was commonly used in cabinet making, especially along the middle-southeastern coast. The box has paneled sides and a paneled front with two drawers below with blank faces. This did come to us with a key and the key works for both bottom drawers and the main lock. The interior is pretty spacious, and the box has a locking candle till but we don’t have the key for that lock. The box is extremely well made and showcases the work of a skilled cabinet maker & joiner. The box measures 40” wide x 19” deep x 27 1/4” tall. When the lid is open the height is 45 1/2” tall.
