Bay Colony Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this fantastic early 19th century antique Mahogany Federal period tilt top candle stand. Defined by its rare beehive turned column and magnificent cut of Mahogany used for the shaped top this is truly a superiorly formed table. The Cuban Mahogany used for the top is the absolute best in the world with unique oil densities and mineral deposits that give it its striking grain and signature sheen. The wood was harvested to near extinction levels and thankfully the few remaining trees are protected today. The stand is in wonderful condition with our only notes being some light scratching to the top and a couple of stable age splits that aren’t at any risk of expanding. The legs are dovetailed into the column and one leg has been reinforced with an old piece of iron. The table measures 18 1/2” wide at the base x 16 1/2” deep x 42 1/2” tall. The top measures 17 1/2” wide x 23 1/2” deep and when locked down the height changes from 42 1/2” to 30” tall.
