19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE FEDERAL PERIOD TIGER WOOD COUNTRY PRIMITIVE ROPE BED
With our highest compliments we're proud to offer for sale this wonderful 19th century antique Federal period rope bed. This is a nice country made bed with finely turned urns atop each post and on the bed rails. We were having trouble identifying the wood this bed is made from. When we first saw it we thought it was a grain painted New England bed. When we examined it closer we noticed it wasn't a grain paint but a rare imported wood. We showed this to our master woodworker with over 30 years of experience to see what he thought it could be and we believe it's a South American hardwood sometimes referred to as "Tiger Wood." The wood is similar to rosewood, it's very dense and has a similar grain pattern with strong dark veins running through it. This is truly an unusual specimen we're excited to offer to our clients. The headboard in our gallery photo is grain painted to simulate a crotch mahogany pattern. The headboard and the foot board are the same height so the decorated panels might want to be used as the foot board so it's not covered in pillows and you can see it in bed. The bed measures 55 1/2" wide x 80" long x 46 1/2" tall. The interior measures 49 1/2" wide x 72" long. This is a non standard size that will require custom bedding. Custom bedding sounds like it'd be a big ordeal but every city has a mattress maker nearby and it's surprisingly affordable.
