Thank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. We're a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We aggressively pursue important antiques, decorative arts, and objects of interest for our most discerning clients.
Bay Colony Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this wonderful 19th century antique mixed wood game board. The board features a 12 x 12 grid with a total of 144 spaces. A 144 square board is used for certain variations of chess & checkers. Chess with a 12 x 12 grid is called Gross Chess and has a few unfamiliar pieces like wizards, champions, & even canons. These inlaid boards are much more desirable than the painted ones and this one hasn’t developed any major splits or separations like some do. The board measures 28 3/4” wide x 18 3/4” deep x 1 3/4” tall. The gaming surface measures 18” wide x 18” deep. The side sections flanking the playing surface measure 4 1/2” wide x 18” deep.
