19th C Antique Country Primitive Grain Painted Jelly Cupboard / Kitchen Cabinet
19th C Antique Country Primitive Grain Painted Jelly Cupboard / Kitchen Cabinet
Bay Colony Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this charming 19th century antique red wash jelly cupboard. The cabinet has 3 drawers with a 2 over 1 configuration with cabinet doors below. Once an absolute necessity to store preserves of all different kinds of fruits, most jelly cupboards today are simply used in kitchens decoratively. They’re nice to have in older homes that don’t have a lot of cabinet space and can even be used as a server storing your dishes in the large drawer and utensils in the upper drawers. The cabinet has a red over black grain painted surface meant to imitate imported Mahogany. These were typically utilitarian pieces so most you encounter aren’t too heavily decorated aside from the painted surface. This example has nice chunky columns with ringlet turnings flanking the doors and is nice and sturdy on turned feet. The cabinet measures 43 1/2” wide x 19” deep x 50 1/4” tall.
